Project EDU-FIT
EDU-FIT is an international research and interdisciplinary project that aims to raise awareness among a new generation of students and other target groups about the importance of healthy lifestyles and, consequently, about the prevention of obesity and overweight.
The project team will develop a multilingual online guide on obesity in the student population in terms of content and terminology and implement an innovative curriculum on active lifestyles and obesity prevention into existing curricula. According to the World Health Organization (WHO, 2022), more than one billion people (650 million adults, 340 million adolescents and 39 million children) are already overweight. In higher education programmes, students are rarely provided with appropriate curricula and multilingual didactic materials to alert young people to the problems associated with obesity and overweight. The issue is to develop sustainable methods and practices to prevent obesity in young people and to develop healthy lifestyles in students and other target groups.
The project also aims to develop appropriate multilingual communication skills, as the use of inappropriate terminology can have a number of consequences for an individual experiencing overweight or obesity problems.
Project Aims:
- To analyse data and examples of good practice in higher education institutions that are already developing healthy lifestyles in relation to the prevention of overweight and obesity in adolescents.
- Develop and produce a multilingual online guide that will include recommendations for lifestyle changes to prevent obesity and overweight.
- Develop practical guidelines and instructions for preparing healthy meals in student dormitories and cantinas.
- Developing obesity and overweight communication skills and appropriate multilingual vocabulary.
- Preparation of curricula and didactic materials for an innovative course aimed at raising students' awareness of healthy lifestyles.
- Implementation of the curriculum, handbook and other didactic materials.
Project results:
- Multilingual interactive and online manual.
- New curriculum for higher education.
- Implementation of the curriculum in existing study programmes.
- Guidelines for appropriate communication in the field of overweight students.
- Dissemination of research findings and project work.
- Final international conference.
- Research monograph.
