On October 28, 2025, the 21st conference of the Slovak Terminology Network (STS) took place at the Falkensteiner Hotel in Bratislava, with the subtitle Terminology in the Digital Age. The event was also part of the European #TranslatingEurope Workshop, organized by the European Commission's Directorate-General for Translation (DG Translation) and the European Parliament.
In his introductory video message, Christos Ellinides, Director-General of the EC's Directorate-General for Translation, emphasized the importance of terminology as part of digital transformation and trustworthy communication in European institutions. Martin Hojsík, Vice-President of the European Parliament, followed up on this topic by presenting his vision for the development of language services, terminology systems, and artificial intelligence in the context of cybersecurity and digital trust. Cristian Brasoveanu, Head of the Innovation Sector at the EC's Directorate-General for Translation, spoke about the European Commission's practical innovations in the field of artificial intelligence.
The program focused on linking terminology practice, language technologies, and artificial intelligence, with an emphasis on ethical aspects, standardization of digital terminology, and cooperation between the academic community and EU institutions.
The afternoon part of the conference featured a workshop entitled "Prompting AI models – creating natural language prompts for generative models," which focused on the principles of effective prompt engineering in translation and terminology practice. The discussions showed how AI can contribute to the accuracy, consistency, and efficiency of translations as well as to the teaching of specialized language.
The Faculty of Applied Languages of the University of Economics in Bratislava was represented at the conference by Doc. Spišiaková, Doc. Gašová, Dr. Kalaš, and Dr. Štefčík, who established new professional contacts and brought ideas for the faculty's research and teaching activities in the field of AI-assisted language communication and digital terminology.
