From August 30 to September 6, 2026, the 13th annual international summer academy and conference titled TRANS 2026, focused on linguistics and translation studies, took place. This year’s event had a single overarching theme: artificial intelligence and its applications in linguistics, translation, and practice.

The academy was organized by colleagues from the Faculty of Arts at the University of Maribor in Slovenia. In addition to specialized lectures by professors and professional translators, students also participated in several workshops on the use of AI in translation. In attendance were faculty members from universities in Turkey, Slovenia, Austria, Croatia, Serbia, Romania, North Macedonia, Albania, and, of course, Slovakia. Our faculty was represented at the conference by Mgr. Silvia Adamcová, PhD., from the Department of Linguistics and Translation Studies. Dr. Adamcová presented a paper on the topic “Teaching Business English using Artificial Intelligence.” Students from our faculty who attended this academy also heard a lecture by the Director-General for Translation at the European Parliament, Mr. Valter Mavrič, who, together with his fellow translators from the European Parliament (e.g., Mr. Rudolf Horňák, Head of the Slovak Translation Section at the Directorate-General for Translation of the European Parliament in Luxembourg), also organized a workshop.
