Applied Foreign Languages in Professional Communication
The study programme in Applied Foreign Languages in Professional Communication provides graduates with a solid theoretical and methodological foundation in the field of applied linguistics, including intercultural communication, corpus analysis and modern linguistic approaches. Graduates are well-versed in current research trends and the cultural contexts of the target language environments, enabling them to respond professionally and creatively to the challenges of contemporary linguistic communication.
During their studies, students will develop critical thinking skills, a methodology for academic work, and the ability to analyse linguistic phenomena and tackle research tasks. They will acquire skills in working with sources, processing linguistic data and interpreting it, whilst emphasis is also placed on the ethical aspects of academic research.
The programme includes the opportunity to undertake a study placement abroad, which develops intercultural competence and linguistic fluency. Graduates are equipped to communicate professionally and present the results of their work in both academic and practical settings – in Slovakia and abroad – and to actively engage in professional and social discourse.
Learning outcomes of the degree programme:
- Graduates will have a command of the theoretical and methodological foundations of applied linguistics, including modern linguistic approaches, intercultural communication and corpus analysis. They will be familiar with current research discourses and the cultural contexts of the target languages, enabling them to approach both academic and research problems creatively.
- They are able to independently analyse, formulate and solve research tasks in the field of linguistic communication, with an emphasis on critical thinking, working with sources, data collection and processing, as well as the ethical aspects of academic work. They are able to work actively in a multicultural and international environment, a capability fostered by study placements abroad.
- They possess the specialist and linguistic competence required for professional communication and the presentation of their work’s results, in academic, professional and social contexts – both in Slovakia and abroad. They are prepared to engage actively in professional discourse and contribute to the development of linguistic and intercultural practice.
